Snap Unveils New Spectacles Camera Goggles
Snap, the company behind the popular Snapchat app, has presented two new Spectacles camera goggles, which allows the person wearing one of the goggles to create (circular) videos and post it directly to Snapchat. The release of the two new goggles is somewhat remarkable, as the first version of the Spectacles hasn’t proven to be a success.
The new Spectacles do look a lot more like traditional sunglasses, and a remarkably, the glasses now actually are sunglasses as well with the introduction of polarized lenses. The company hopes that these two new goggles will be a bigger success due to their new design and polarized lenses.
The two new styles – called Veronica and Nico – will be available right away, although the qualities will be ‘limited at launch’. The price tag in the States is $ 199, but users in Europe will have to pay significantly more as both sunglasses are carrying a price tag of no less than € 229,99. Snap says that you’ll be able to get prescription lenses via Lensabl and the goggles should also be made available in a number of retail stores. Both glasses are also waterproof. There’s a proprietary port for charging the device.
Some other improvements are saving video’s to the camera roll automatically, to ensure that the content can be shared on other platforms besides Snapchat. The trademark circle videos are still here, but you’ll also be able to record content with a regular format.
