Rumor: ASUS to Announce ROG Gaming Smartphone
It appears ASUS will announce its Republic of Gamers (ROG) branded smartphone this June at the Computex tech conference. Rumors about a possible ROG smartphone have been circulating for a while now, and ASUS would be following in the footsteps of Razer and Xiaomi who have released or are working on gaming-focused smartphones.
Reportedly, the company will officially announce its high-end smartphone at Computex 2018 in Taiwan, which is being held between June 5th and June 9th. Although the company isn’t a big player by any means, ASUS is no stranger to the smartphone market with its existing ZenPhone line of smartphones.
Technical specifications are still scarce at the moment, but given that the phone will be positioned in the company’s high-end ROG line, we can expect to see high-end specifications for this upcoming smartphone. In other words, the high-end ASUS smartphone will almost certainly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-a-chip coupled with a generous amount of internal memory.
It’s also possible that ASUS will introduce a high refresh rate display into the ROG phone, similar to the 120 Hz display seen in the iPad Pro and the Razer Phone. High refresh rates are seen as unique selling points for other ROG-branded products, so it’ll be interesting to see if ASUS will apply this to their Republic of Gamers smartphone as well.
