Intel Optane 905P SSD Surfaces Online
It looks like Intel will soon be updating its line-up of Optane 900P SSD’s with a small revision known as the Optane 905P. Although the new SSD’s haven’t been officially announced yet, the 905P has surfaced on numerous webshops. Intel’s new SSD will launch in a PCIe format along with LED lights, but will also ship in a U.2 version.
The 905P does look quite different than its predecessor with blue LEDs and new, larger storage capacities. Intel has previously stated that the 900P would release in larger capacities, but it appears those plans have shifted to the 905P. Notably, this new Optane SSD isn’t as energy-efficient as the previous version, with an idle power consumption of 7 watts instead of the 900P’s, 2 watts. The Optane 905P does seem to be quite a bit more rugged, however, with an increase in maximum operating temperature up to 85 degrees Celsius. The shock resistance has also risen from 50G to a whopping 1000G.
As mentioned above, a version with the U.2 form factor has also been leaked online. Although specific specifications of the U.2 model haven’t been made available, it’s likely that these are identical to the PCIe version.
It’s still unclear when Intel will officially introduce the new Optane SSDs, and as such price tags and release dates are still unknown.
