First Specifications and Details of the HTC U12 Leaked
The first specifications and details of HTC’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the HTC U12, have been leaked by a product page on Verizon’s official website. The telecom operator accidentally posted the specifications of the U12 online before its announcement, similar to the leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S9.
The specifications page mention a ‘frameless’ 6.0-inch Super LCD 6 display, carrying a 1440p resolution. It’s still unclear at the moment whether or not this frameless screen will feature a notch at the top. Other confirmed specifications are a 3500 mAh battery, and the phone will also be both water and dust proof with an IP68 certification.
It’s very likely that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-a-chip will be used, although this hasn’t been confirmed yet. Some other specifications on the page, such as LTE Cat 12 (while the Snapdragon 845 supports speeds up to Cat 18) and the outdated Quick Charge 1.0 indicate that the information isn’t completely trustworthy and is most likely a placeholder.
Unfortunately, the leak on Verizon’s website did not include an image of the HTC U12. An image of the company’s previous flagship phone, the U11, is shown instead. The smartphone will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, along with the HTC Sense graphical overlay. It appears that the company will once again focus on its HTC USonic audio functionality, suggesting a lack of a headphone jack.
Latest rumors indicate a reveal and release of the HTC U12 as soon as this May, and a release of a larger U12+ device should come within the next few months.
