Sega Releases Mega Drive Mini Classic Console
Sega is following in the footsteps of Nintendo after the massive success of the NES Mini and SNES Mini and will release its own Sega Mega Drive Mini console based on the original product, also known as the Sega Genesis in European territories.
The Sega Mega Drive Mini will be released to celebrate the console’s thirtieth birthday and was announced at the Sega Fes 2018 event. The Mega Drive Minishould release this year in Japan, and it’s unsure at the moment if the company is considering to launch the mini console in European or Western territories.
The original Mega Drive launched in October 1988 in Japan, and it’s likely that this new and updated smaller version will release in the same month. Notably, Sega states that the name of the Mega Drive Mini isn’t final and could still change.
The console will feature a number of classic Mega Drive games, but the company hasn’t announced which classic games will make the cut – although the console wouldn’t be complete without Sonic: The Hedgehog, of course.
Aside from the Mega Drive Mini announcement, the company will also release a number of classic games for Nintendo Switch, as well as Android and iOS. Confirmed games are the first Sonic, Thunder Force 4 and Phantasy Star. Sega Releases Mega Drive Mini Classic Console
