Microsoft Invests 5 Million Dollars in Internet of Things
It appears Microsoft is heavily investing in the IoT (internet of things) market, as Redmond company has announced it will be investing a whopping five billion dollars into the industry for the development of internet-of-things related products and services.
The company claims that the number of businesses entering the market will increase in the coming years. Most of the investment money will be used for research and development, with a pretty heavy focus on security as well. It’s the latter that has ensured that the growth of IoT hasn’t been as high as some companies would’ve hoped, and the additional tools will most certainly be of help as well in order to give the market a much-needed boost.
The company aims to create better development tools, assets, and services and wants to collaborate with other companies as well. Microsoft assures that this new strategy is an expansion of the company’s current IoT products instead of a replacement, although the company does remain scarce in details. As of right now, the company offers its clients access to the Azure IoT Suite as well as Windows 10 IoT. The Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform is similar but focuses on the automotive industry.
Microsoft claims that the adoption of the internet of things keeps improving and that there’s exponential room for growth. Smart cities will play a major factor, but also the increase in connected devices in-home.
