Apple Wants To Release New Modular Mac Pro in 2019
Apple has confirmed in an interview with TechCrunch that the new and revised Apple Mac Pro will be released in 2019. The previous iteration of the Mac Pro featured a big shift in its design, at the cost of upgradeability. This new model, however, should be ‘modular’ and easily upgradeable.
“We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community, so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year,” Apple marketing officer Tom Boger said.
Apparently, a team of Apple Engineers has created a ‘Pro Workflow’ team, which is primarily responsible for the more professional Apple products such as the Pro computer. They’ve analyzed the workflows of professionals in a number of different creative jobs, and have specifically searched for certain bottlenecks or things that could go noticeable better – both in terms of hardware and the operating system. This suggests that the next Pro won’t just simply be an interactive specification upgrade, but might come with more changes than expected.
This new version of the Mac Pro was already silently announced last year, and it was known to be a total overhaul with a heavy focus on upgrade- and expandability, two terms that don’t fit very well with the current cylindrical Mac Pro model. The Mac Pro is not to be confused with the iMac Pro, an all-in-one which was released late last year.
