Rumor: Apple To Introduce Cheaper MacBook Air and iPad
Rumors about the existence of a cheaper Apple MacBook Air have been circulating for a while now, which is supposedly releasing in the second half of 2018. A new report by DigiTimes suggests that the less expensive MacBook Air is indeed launching this year, and will be accompanied by a lower-priced iPad model as well.
Interestingly, the report only mentions ‘MacBook’ and omits the Air suffix. The cheaper device would feature a 12-inch display with a Retina resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio. Reportedly, Apple would set the recommended retail price somewhere between 799 and 899 USD, making it a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the current 13-inch MacBook Air model that received an update in mid-2017. If the rumors are accurate, Apple’s new notebook will launch somewhere in June.
As for the cheaper iPad, this model will also arrive in the second quarter of the year and will retain the 9,7-inch screen size that’s currently being used on regular-sized iPads. The current iPad 2017 costs 329 USD for the lowest capacity option, and this new rumored iPad would knock the price further down to 259 USD.
Unfortunately, further technical details of both the cheaper MacBook and iPad model haven’t been made available yet. It’s best to take this information with a grain of salt, but chances are we’ll hear about these new Apple devices soon.
