Apple Says All Mac and iOS Devices Are Vulnerable To Specter and Meltdown
After several days of silence, Apple has spoken out regarding the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities which have dominated the headlines and Twitter feeds fo tech enthusiasts. Doubtless, many were hopeful that Mac and iOS devices were unaffected by the Intel issue, but that is not the case. Apple has stated that all Mac and iOS devices are vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre.
That being said, the company also said that it was already rolling out patches to combat the issue. Some users may have received them before Apple even spoke out. Furthermore, Apple also said that that “there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time” so, for now, Mac and iOS fans can rest easy.
In terms of security updates, Apple said that it included fixes for Meltdown in macOS 10.13.2 and iOS 11.2. As long as you updated your operating systems on schedule, you should be safe from Meltdown.
The Apple Watch is unaffected by either of these exploits.
On the broader scale, Intel has said that its next round of security updates should make their processors “immune” to both exploits.
