Intel India Provides New Details on AMD and Intel Project
Over the past few months, one of the most intriguing tech stories has been the promise of a collaboration between AMD and Intel. Last year, the two hardware giants announced that they would be working together on a project which would make use of a GPU from AMD and a CPU from Intel.
For a while, that was all we knew. The companies refused to provide any details about their project, but a recent leak may have given us some insight into the AMD and Intel’s plans for this joint venture.
The recent leaks show that Intel will be contributing a Core i7-8809 which is a quad-core eight-thread CPU. The chip will offer a base speed of 3.1GHz. The boosted speed has not been confirmed but is rumored to be 4.1GHz.
Given that this leak came from Intel India, it didn’t provide much information on AMD’s side of things. However, we do know that AMD will be providing an integrated GPU based on their Vega line of chips. It will be interesting to see how well this device performs on the market. Integrated GPUs can be tricky to pull off. Many consumers, particularly in the laptop space, enjoy the power-saving features that an integrated GPU can offer. However, attempts to cater to the high-end premium market have met with mixed results.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see how well the two companies perform on this joint venture.
