While it remains unconfirmed(though it is a safe bet) whether or not the S9 will feature the 845, we do know one smartphone manufacturer who will be using Qualcomm’s latest system-on-chip in the production of its next flagship. During the announcement event, Xioami founder and CEO Lei Jun, took the stage to discuss his company’s partnership with Qualcomm and announce that Xioami’s next flagship would make use of the Snapdragon 845.
It is likely that this upcoming phone will be the Mi7 though the name has not been confirmed. However, the news that they are partnering with Qualcomm isn’t a major surprise. The past few months have seen multiple rumors stating that the two companies were working closely together to make sure that upcoming Snapdragon worked well on Xiaomi’s next flagship phone.
Beyond the announcement from Xioami, we got little in the way of details regarding the upcoming Snapdragon. We don’t know what kind of processor it will use or other important features. That being said, we do know that it will support the X20 LTE modem. Theoretically, this modem is capable of gigabit LTE speeds though there is no guarantee that service carriers will be able to support those speeds. If they do, then this would allow for even faster mobile web-browsing than we’re already accustomed to, but it remains to be seen if providers will be able to pull that off.
Another thing we don’t know is what kind of manufacturing process will be used in the creation of this chip. It is expected that the Snapdragon 855 will make use of a 7nm process though, for right now, it is speculated that the 845 will use a 10nm process.
