Next year’s iPad Pro Could Feature Eight-Core Processor
The iPad Pro was one of the first tablets that could arguably replace your laptop especially if you’re a fan of Apple’s ecosystem. Many people likely prefer notebooks, but Apple has made a compelling case that the iPad Pro is the cheapest MacBook on the market and that case may become even stronger next year. Current rumors suggest next year’s iPad Pro may feature an octa-core processor. The iPhone 8 and iPhone X make use of six-core processors.
According to WCCFTech, reporting via an unnamed Chinese source, the A11X Bionic will feature 8 cores and will be based on TSMC’s 7nm process. Apple and TSMC have a good working relationship with TSMC providing the 10mn process behind Apple’s production of its hexacore processors so this news isn’t surprising.
While we don’t know the details surrounding the iPad Pro, these rumors lead us to believe it will be a very capable piece of hardware. The current version of the iPad Pro was able to stand toe-to-toe with the MacBook Pro in a number of areas so we’ll be very curious to see just how powerful next year’s model is.
In addition to being more powerful, it looks like the upcoming version of the iPad Pro will be more energy efficient as well. Considering that the Pro-line is often used for battery-intensive tasks, this should be welcome news.
Hardware aside, it is rumored that Apple will be making a number of aesthetically improvements to the iPad Pro. One of the most interesting are the reports that Apple’s next tablet will feature an edge-to-edge display and Face ID like the iPhone X. We don’t know anything regarding price or release date, but it is likely that we’ll get 10.5 and 12.9-inch versions next year.
As of right now, these are only rumors, but we should learn more in the coming months.
