While it might seem like an odd choice for a company that makes gaming mice and keyboards, but the move would make sense considering Razer acquired Nexbit last year. Now, it seems like that acquisition has paid off as the specs for the upcoming Razer phone have allegedly been leaked online.
The specs don’t tell us too much about the device aside from the fact that it will be powerful and run the Android operating system, but, knowing Razer, we expect it to be gaming focused. However, how it will interact with gaming remains to be seen. The specs are certainly high-end which means it will be able to play plenty of mobile games, but you can do that on the OnePlus 5, Galaxy S8, or most other recent smartphones. So, that leaves us to wonder how, aside from branding, the Razer phone will be able to appeal to hardcore gamers.
Were this a video game console, already a strange choice for a maker of PC accessories, we would expect plenty of exclusive titles, but this is just a smartphone and one running Android at that. So the vast majority of its apps will be available on the Google Play Store. Sure, the company will likely install some custom-built apps on the phone that will likely appeal to gamers, but we don’t know really see that being enough to incentivize smartphone customers to go with Razer over any of the established competition.
That being said, November 1st isn’t too far away so we’ll know more then.
