Former WoW Developers Announce Rend, A Survival/RPG Multiplayer
During PAX East 2017, Frostkeep Studios announced Rend. The new survival and RPG multiplayer promises to challenge a lot of the traditional games in the genre. It isn’t just getting coverage for the new style of game which will turn the industry upside down. Frostkeep Studios is getting a lot of press because the studio is made up of former WoW and LoL developers. The insider knowledge from World of Warcraft and League of Legends will give Frostkeep an upper hand in entering the already saturated market.
Co-founder Mat Milizia of Frostkeep said in a press release that they have been fortunate in their careers to have learned some key lessons from some of the best studios in the industry. As such they will be able to apply that experience to this studio’s development as well as the game.
Rend will launch on Steam in late Spring
Rend will launch on Steam Early Access, but the video above is the first gameplay we’ll get. The new gameplay makes the game look like a mix up of different genres, with a little bit of game that’ll remind us of WoW. Rend is going to be a faction based game. The three factions include Order, Conclave, and Revenant. Each faction is at war, but they’re also defending against demons called the Last One.
The factions are competing to collect the most souls, which can be done through harvesting or killing stuff around the map. The winning factions will be declared when the time ends with the team winning by collecting the most souls, or all the factions are wiped out on the map.
Frostkeep promises a launch in 6 to 12 months, but you can always get the early access on Steam until then. I’m not sure if it’ll become a hit like For Honor or Destiny, but the developers are putting a lot of work into the strategy and game graphics. Tell us in the comments below if you’re going to get the early access on Steam or if you’re going to pass the game up altogether?
