Apple May Replace Lightning Port With Standard USB For iPhone 8
For the most part, the iPhone 7 was a popular addition to Apple’s signature line of smartphones. However, it had one glaring flaw that earned the company a lot of scorn and bad press and that was the removal of the audio jack. The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple might be reversing that move with the upcoming iPhone 8. Instead of the company’s Lightning connector, they might opt for a USB-C port.
It should be noted that these are only rumors and Apple has refused to confirm any of the details surrounding the upcoming iPhone 8. That being said, this choice does make sense from a business standpoint. Apple certainly has a loyal following who will stick with their products no matter what, but the company can’t thrive on core users alone. There are plenty of people who haven’t taken sides in Apple v. Android debate that were likely turned off from the iPhone 7 due to its lack of standard audio jack. If these rumors are true, it could win back a lot of customers.
As of right now, these are merely rumors, but we should know more as we get closer to the rumored launch window of the iPhone 8.
