GameStop Will Have A “Limited Supply” Of Nintendo Switch Consoles At Launch
For the most part, unless you’re interested in a particular bit of content, video game pre-orders are unnecessary. Most retailers have plenty of copies in stock and, if not, you can always resort to digital downloads. Consoles, on the other hand, are a different story. Obviously, you can’t download a console and they are usually in short supply. Nintendo, in particular, is bad about this sort of thing. Even the NES Classic, which is based on 30-year old technology, ran into major shortage problems. Based on preorder numbers, it appears that the upcoming Switch will be no different, but one retailer (GameStop) is promising that they will have a limited number of Nintendo’s elusive console in stock.
This was confirmed by GameStop’s Bub Puzon and he confirmed that there will be units available for walk-in customers. The emphasis here should be the term limited supply which may very well mean as low as 1 per store. Of course, this is just us speculating.
Puzon also recommends that if anyone wanting a Nintendo Switch first should consider attending of their midnight launch events to secure one of these highly coveted consoles. It goes without saying, but they will sell out quickly.
The Switch will retail for $300 and Nintendo is offering no official bundles, but GameStop has created several of their own bundles that will come with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or other Switch games. GameStop did not offer any clarification as to whether or not the bundles would be available for purchase on launch day.
