$499 Flagship AMD SR7 CPU Beats $999 High End Intel Core i7-5960X
The Zen based AMD SR7 CPU is going to be the latest and greatest from the red team and reports are coming in that it beats the high-end Intel Core i7-5960X. The eight-core AMD SR7 CPU is rumored to be priced at $499. If these reports are true then you will be getting better performance in half the price.
AMD will be launching three different versions of the summit ridge CPUs much like the Intel i series CPUs. The top of the line processor will be the AMD SR7 CPU, after that you have the mid-range AMD SR5 and the budget oriented, entry level AMD SR3.
The AMD SR7 CPU will be launched at CES 2017 in January. Other SKUs will be coming out in March. The AMD SR7 CPU features 8 cores and 16 threads. It also comes with 16MB of L3 cache joined by 4MB of L2 cache. The TDP for the CPU will be 95W. The CPU will feature a 3.2 GHz core clock and a 3.5 GHz boost clock.
Word has it that the AMD SR3 will feature 4 cores and 8 threads at the $149 price point. This means that you will be getting the performance of a core i7 for the price of a core i3. While these are still rumors if they are true we are looking at some incredible price to performance figures and AMD offering would be great value for money.
Intel has dominated the CPU market for as long as we can remember and it will be interesting to see how these new Zen based CPUs will affect the market as a whole. I for one am excited for next year as there is little value for money in the CPU offerings that we have seen so far.
What are your views regarding the upcoming AMD SR7 CPU and its performance as compared to the top of the line Intel CPU?
