Phil Spencer Talks About Project Scorpio And Next Xbox Console
In an interview, Phil Spencer, Boss of Xbox, talked about Microsoft Project Scorpio and the next Xbox console. In this interview, Spencer was asked about this comment “gaming beyond generation” which he said at E3 this year. This comment confused some people and got us thinking that console makers might be taking the route of the PC and we could see more console refreshes coming out every two years. This raises the question of whether getting a console over a PC would even be worth it?
Thankfully Phil Spencer has now made that clear for us:
“It’s hard to tell. Clearly, in the case of Xbox One, Xbox One S and Scorpio, the answer would be, I don’t know if it’s more regularly, but you’re going to want Scorpio to run the game at the highest resolution or framerate – whatever the developers decide to do with that game”.
We have talked about this before. Project Scorpio will give all that power to the developers but that does not mean that all games will be native 4K. It is up to the developers to decide whether they use all that power to focus on native 4K or something else entirely. While some developers may choose to take the native 4K route like Microsoft studios, others may do something else entirely.

Phil Spencer has also made it clear that Xbox will not be following the GPU business model and will be sticking to their current console business model like the company always has.
The reason I hesitate to say yes to your question in terms of the future is, I don’t know what the next thing is past Scorpio right now… I’m not trying to turn consoles into the graphics card market where every so often NVIDIA or AMD come out with a new card, and if I want a little bit more performance I’m going to go buy that new card. I think for consoles it’s different. I think you have to hit a spec that actually means something in an ecosystem of televisions and games.
What do you think about these comments and the future of Project Scorpio as well as the next console that Xbox will be making? Could Project Scorpio be the next console for you?
