PowerColor RX 480 Red Devil Unlocked BIOS Pushes Card to Its Limits
PowerColor has released a new BIOS file for the RX 480 Red Devil, dubbed ‘unlocked BIOS’ which provides overclockers and enthusiasts with a number of options to push their already impressive card even further.
The PowerColor RX 480 Red Devil 8GB GDDR5 is one of the best performing Polaris 10 based flagship GPUs available in the market. The card features an extra 8-Pin power connector and a triple fan cooler for a substantial overhead for overclocking. Further, a fancy red on black colour scheme adds to the aesthetics apart from its functionality.
The unlocked BIOS is only intended for power users who want to push their card to its limits. So the update has been supplied as an optional download, rather than a recommended one.
The new update works by increasing the voltage limits that would allow you to further tweak the card and achieve a higher stable overclock. In addition, it removes a restriction on the TDP, so the card could actually deliver the absolute maximum when running the latest video game titles.
According to PowerColor, increasing the GPU power limits won’t void your warranty, however it recommends that you don’t run the stability test application FurMark, as this purportedly resulted in damaging a number of cards. Even those that were running at their stock frequencies.
If you’re interested, you can download the RX 480 Red Devil unlocked BIOS via the PowerColor DevilClub (sign in required) or straight from TechPowerUp.
