Microsoft Xbox Scorpio Won’t Run Every Game At 4K/60FPS
The biggest feature that Microsoft Xbox Scorpio has to offer, because of which everyone is hyped about the console is that the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio can run VR games and run games at 4K 60 FPS. This means you will be able to play Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 at native 4K. But is that true for all games when it comes to Microsoft Xbox Scorpio? Not really.
Microsoft’s Albert Penello has made it clear that it is not necessary and that whether or not games run at 60 FPS with 4K resolution is totally up to the developers of different games. He said that it is Microsoft’s goal to make this happen for their games on the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio but other developers might not have the same goals in mind and could go a different way.
So there is no compulsion here; if developers think that 1080p is enough for their game on the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio then no one is stopping them from releasing the game on the console. Microsoft is letting the developers choose what they want to do with the power of the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio at their disposal and we would like to see what developers have got going on in their heads as well.
You have to have a goal. When you decide to do a piece of technology…when you want to launch, how much do you want it to cost…and there are all these decisions. At some point you have to say that this is what we want to do. So Phil kind of teased this up…we didn’t…and this is not a slam on anybody…we didn’t want to take a half step. Phil used to run studios and he is got all this studio guys and all these technology guys and he said if we are going to do this we need to make sure that we make a technology goal for ourselves.
Further on the statement is made even simpler with a precise and to the point remark:
I am not saying every game will be 4K/60fps but developers may not choose to do that.
So there you have it folks. The Microsoft Xbox Scorpio will allow games to run at 4K at 60 FPS but whether or not developers choose to go down that road is completely up to them.
