It seems like AMD has its eyes fixed on becoming the top virtual reality graphics provider in the whole industry. AMD has already released the AMD RX 480 GPU which gives VR access to the masses. Word has it that AMD is partnering with Chinese VR platform 87870.
Chinese VR platform 87870 posted about this venture on their blog and although you will need to translate the post from Chinese and it might not make much sense, it does outline that they are partnering with AMD and that the relationship is at early stages at the moment but this could be big for both companies.
Chinese VR platform 87870 has the largest VR application library in the world and AMD is looking to become the top VR graphics provider, so it seems that this venture would benefit both companies.
AMD will be able to provide a better VR experience to their customers and Chinese VR platform 87870 will be able to tap into AMD resources. AMD is turning to other companies in order to establish friendly relations and build high-performance products. Chinese VR Platform 87870 is one of those companies.
“Meanwhile, the AMD offers authoring tools Radeon graphics card and dual-core platform Liquid VR SDK for developers. Therefore, the cooperation can be described as strong joint.”
AMD will provide full support to Chinese VR platform 87870, including promotion of the brand at various events. AMD will also be providing technical support in order for Chinese VR platform 87870 to create better content. It will also be supporting the company in teaching VR to students in 10 universities.
These series of events took place on Tanabata, which is the Chinese equivalent of Valentines Day. So we can clearly see that a friendly relationship is in the works between the two companies. Right now, these are the early stages but both companies will be able to help out each other in the future.
