Custom RX 480 GPU Revealed By XFX, Clocked at 1338MHz
Almost a month after its launch, custom RX 480 GPUs have suddenly been appearing all over the internet. The latest company to join in on the race for the best custom RX 480 GPU is none other than XFX. The company has two different models of their version of AMD’s RX 480.
XFX chose to reveal details about their RX 480 Black Edition instead of the reference model, which should be pretty much the same as the reference RX 480 directly from AMD. The GPU has dimensions of 280X40X124mm so fitting it in a normal medium sized casing shouldn’t be a problem.
The Black Edition GPU comes factory overlocked to 1338MHz. while it may not be the fastest custom RX 480 in the market, it’s certainly up there with most of the fast ones.
The GPU features an 8-pin PCIe power connector following the massive backlash faced by the power draw of reference RX 480. According to the 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme benchmark results showcased by XFX, the Black Edition should be in close proximity to Nvidia’s GTX 980.
Those interested can overlock the GPU further to close that gap, within reason of course.
The card has a dual fan cooler with a 0dB mode which turns off the fans for some more noise reduction whenever the PC is under light load. The cooler features 4 composite copper heatpipes soldered to the aluminum fin array. To round off the card design, there is a nice backplate and a LED backlit logo in there as well.
RX 480 Black Edition has the typical connectivity options of a standard HDMI port, 3x DisplayPort and a DVI-D port. There is no word on the pricing or available of the card as of yet but hopefully XFX will reveal those soon since GTX 1060 already has custom variants rolling in.
Designed as a mainstream 1080p VR ready GPU, RX 480 has been somewhat underperforming when compared to its mainstream counterpart in Nvidia’s GTX 1060, however with its lower price tag, many people might still opt for the AMD GPU provided the custom variants manage to keep the price low.
