1080p vs 1440p Gaming: Do You Even Need to Upgrade?
1080p vs 1440p gaming is a big debate, especially if you are on a budget and want to save up every dollar. 1080p is fine? Should it be 1440p? Well, it comes down to what you want from a game and how much you are willing to pay to have a slightly better experience.
The difference between 1080p vs 1440p gaming is the same as 720p and 1080p. Sure you will see the difference at times but most of the time they go unnoticed. If you have a budget rig that can pull off high settings on AAA titles at 30 FPS as 1080p, first of all you will not be able to play the game at 1440p at the same settings. The second thing is that you will not feel the difference most of the time.
Another important factor that you need to count in the 1080p vs 1440p gaming debate is that 1440p gaming monitors do not come cheap. On the other hand, 1080p is the standard for most displays (atleast for now) so you can even hook up your TV screen. One of the perks of 1080p gaming and one disadvantage of making the shift to 1440p. A 1440p display can cost you as much as a mid ranged PC. That is one thing you will need to consider when you are looking into getting into 1440p gaming.
If you are someone like me then 1080p vs 1440p gaming is a no brainer. I have not felt the difference to be worth the extra cost. If you are someone who is shifting from console to PC even then getting high settings at 1080p is enough to feel the difference between a PC and a console.
If money is no object and you can afford to spend a huge amount of money on a display alone then sure you can go for 1440p gaming monitors but remember that the shift from 1080p to 1440p will have a significant impact on the performance of your GPU in games. So future proof your setup before you invest in a 1440p display.
For me, the slightly better looking graphics are not enough to justify such a premium price. I will be sticking to 1080p gaming for now. Let me know if you are going with 1080p or moving on to 1440p. I truly believe 1080p is the best option for budget gamers that want to enjoy their games at decent setting with playable FPS.
