PC Gaming Still More Profitable Than Console Gaming, But Not As Much As Mobile
PC market has been on decline for the past few years, but the trend doesn’t seem to affect the popularity of PC gaming. According to the latest quarterly update of Newzoo’s Global Games Market Report, PC gaming remains more profitable than console gaming in 2016.
Newzoo projects game-related stats each segment in its Global Games Market Forecast Model, and while the latest report shows PC gaming superseding console’s in terms of profits, mobile gaming blows them both away.
These projections are analyzed in various ways, comparing year-on-year growth rates, market share, CAGRs and absolute amounts in USD between the regions and segments, as well as the development of specific regions or segments in time. These projections are compared to available third-party sources on a local or global level.
According to the latest stats, PC gaming will generate almost $32 billion, console gaming $29.0 billion, while the mobile gaming (smartphones + tablets) is expected to grow to $36.9 billion.
Newzoo’s report lines up with Hardware Market Report by Jon Peddie Research (JPR) which surfaced earlier this year. JPR noted in the report that the market for high end gaming PCs is still strong and growing, and is expected to see steady growth for the next several years.
