AMD vs Nvidia: The Quantum Break Analysis
Is Quantum Break the next Batman Arkham Knight? Well, it isn’t as bad as Arkham Knight but things are bad, especially for Nvidia users.
Digital Foundry did analysis of Quantum Break PC using 1080p Ultra setting. They used an AMD R9 390 and Nvidia GTX 970 and AMD blows Nvidia out of the water with Quantum Break.
Quantum Break holds an average rate of 40FPS on AMD card but Nvidia 970 drops to 20-27 frames. The cut-scenes are locked at 30 but in gameplay the drop is believed to be due to volumetric lighting.
Nvidia driver crash is also common with Quantum Break and even if you reinstall everything from stretch, it may not work properly.
To get Quantum Break to run above 50fps, you’ll need a monitor with a refresh rate higher than 60Hz. However, you’ll still get a stuttering presentation because frames are never delivered consistently.
AMD has provided a day-one driver update for Quantum Break which improves performance. This Quantum Break analysis shows AMD as the clear winner.
