Hitman Frequently Crashes under DirectX 12, Capped at 60FPS on AMD GPUs
Hitman has just been released on PC, with support for DirectX 12. Unfortunately though, this particular feature is highly unstable, and causes crashes and freezing in the game menus.
Hitman’s press build ran without any issues under DX12, but according to recent reports, the DirectX 12 mode in the game can’t be properly tested, with a 60FPS cap on AMD GPUs making results almost incomparable to those of the DX11 codepath.
A lot of users at Hitman’s official Steam page reported experiencing crashes when DX12 was enabled. Some even said that they had tried all available options, but were still unable to prevent the game from crashing.
This indicates that there is an obvious performance difference DX11 and DX12, so we’d recommend that, for the time being, you don’t use the game’s DX12 path.
In addition to crashing under DX12, another problem found in Hitman is that the game sometimes won’t run the graphical settings that you have defined in the settings menu. For example, Ambient Occlusion may turn on when you have selected off,or this may occur for some other graphical setting like the Fullscreen mode it runs with.
We’re keeping our eyes out and will update you on the topic as more information comes in. Stay tuned!
