Gigabyte Releases UEFI Updates to Fix Skylake Freeze Bug
Gigabyte today released UEFI updates which will fix the Skylake freeze bug. Originally spotted by the Mersenne Community, the bug affects the Skylake platform by causing freezing and crashing when tasked with certain “complex workloads.” Intel confirmed the existence of Skylake bug revealing that:
… issue only occurs under certain complex workload conditions, like those that may be encountered when running applications like Prime95. In those cases, the processor may hang or cause unpredictable system behaviour.
According to Gigabyte, the latest updates will resolve the freezing issues on Skylake seen in certain circumstances of Prime95 and GIMPS processing. Head over to Gigabyte’s download site and enter in your motherboard’s model to download the new UEFI updates.
As for other OEMs, ASRock and MSI have already updated the BIOS on their motherboards to squash this serious bug on Intel’s sixth generation Skylake processors. Intel is working closely with other OEMs to release a fix out as fast as possible, before it affects even more users.
