Frictional Games’ SOMA Launch Trailer Released
Frictional Games, creators of the Amnesia and Penumbra series, have released the launch trailer for their upcoming horror, exploration title SOMA. Played from a first-person perspective, SOMA takes place on the PATHOS-2, an underwater remote research facility with machinery that begins to take human characteristics.
The game is available today on the PC.
Talking about the development cycle of SOMA, Creative Director Thomas Grip said:
Five years ago, SOMA started as a simple idea; to make a game that would explore the more disturbing aspects of what it means to be a conscious being. Since then, we have gone through years of iterations, lots of hard work and almost tripled the size of our team. And finally, today, the game is done. We are very proud of how it has turned out, and feel that we have achieved what we set out to do. It has easily been the most ambitious project we have undertaken, and getting to this point has been quite a struggle. We hope people find SOMA to be a creepy and provocative experience that stays with them long after playing.
Frictional Games explained on Twitter that you can turn off some of the SOMA’s potential nausea-causing effects in Options > Game. Devs said these effects are an important part of SOMA’s design, but if they severely hurt your enjoyment you should obviously turn them off.
