Mercedes Electric Car is Coming Soon, Thanks to Tesla Model S
We know that so far a Mercedes electric car has not been on the to do list of the German automobile company whereas a comparatively new entrant Tesla has been focusing almost entirely on them. This has apparently led to a change of plans at the former; they are making an electric car and it is coming soon!
The head of development at Mercedes-Benz, Thomas Weber, was recently interviewed by Auto Motor und Sport (AMUS) magazine where he revealed the news.
Weber said that the company is currently developing the “concept for a highly attractive electric vehicle with a range of 400–500 kilometers (228–311 miles).”
He did not mention which range he was talking about i.e. the US or the European test cycle because there is an almost 33 percent of difference between the two with the US test cycle falling below.
According to the analysts, the decision to make a Mercedes electric car is a direct result of Tesla Model S which has surprisingly started to cut into the market share of the likes of Audio A8, Mercedes S Class and BMW 7 Series.
It will be interesting to find out whether Mercedes is going to do it themselves or ask for external help in the manufacturing of the car.
Keep checking back for more on the Mercedes electric car as we will be updating you regularly.
