BMW i8 Has Wireless Charging Provided By Qualcomm
FIA’s Formula E Championship is upon us and some exciting, very intriguing news has been shared regarding the event. First off, for those of you who don’t know much about the E championship, it features electric cars.
For the event, Qualcomm has launched an electric Safety Car, which is the BMW i8. The battery of this car will be charged remotely using the Qualcomm Halo 7.2kW wireless charging system.
The Qualcomm Halo 7.2kW wireless charging system provides double the charge to BMW i8, compared to the previous 3.6kW system. Obviously, this will reduce the amount of time it takes to charge. It is said that it can charge the BMW i8 in one hour.
Using the magnetic architecture optimization, it employs Qualcomm Halo DD technology. This ensures higher coupling coefficients.
Qualcomm’s general manager of wireless charging, Steve Pazol wrote in a post:
Qualcomm is showcasing its innovative new technologies within the Championship and using the motorsport platform to accelerate the development of automotive technologies, which is perfectly illustrated by the wireless charging technology fitted to the new BMW i8 Safety Car.
