OnePlus to Announce HydrogenOS Later This Month
OnePlus is preparing to unveil a new OS for the Chinese market called HydrogenOS.
The announcement is set for May 28 and will be made in the Chinese capital of Beijing. For now, the new version is expected to be lighter and focused on improving battery life and performance. In the aesthetics department, the HydrogenOS is said to include different colors and new animations in line with the Material Design of Android 5.0.
According to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, the OS will not be another iOS lookalike and will feature its own identity. He praised the latest Lollipop update and said that it will be the base for HydrogenOS. He affirmed that the company would not be tweaking their ROMs in any way just to make it look similar to the iOS design.
OnePlus released OxygenOS only last month for the OnePlus One, a fresh start in the wake of its troubles with Cyanogen Inc.. The company was forced to create the new OS when Cyanogen, which originally powered the OnePlus One, entered into an exclusivity deal in India with Micromax. The outcome resulted in OnePlus and Cyanogen ending their partnership.
