Twitter Bans Promoted Tweets by White Supremacist Andrew Auernheimer
In a recent chain of events, Twitter has banned promoted tweets from a known white supremacist Andrew Auernheimer aka Weev.
Weev had been tweeting (and promoting) things like whites should stand up for their rights and against discrimination and violence from which, he insisted, the whites need to defend themselves against.
Then he was tweeting about “white pride, worldwide” and referring to The Fourteen Words slogan that white nationalists use quite often.
He had promoted all such tweets for one day but on the next day, the very first request for promotion was rejected by Twitter which flagged his tweets under hate content.
On their Help Center, the social media website has listed its policy for “hate content, sensitive topics, and violence” which, in one point, lists some of the things that are banned:
Hate speech or advocacy against an individual, organization or protected group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, color, religion, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status or other protected status.Violence or threats of violence against people or animals
Other points also list “individuals associated with promoting hate” and “inflammatory content which is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction or cause harm.”
Andrew Auernheimer recognizes himself as a critic of black culture, Judaism and even immigrations being done by people who are not white to western regions.
Do you agree with the steps that Twitter has taken against Andrew ‘weev’ Auernheimer? Or do you differ in your opinion?
