Facebook Sidebar Status Lets You Stay in Touch When You’re Away
There was a time when Facebook used to let people put up a message that would be displayed when they were not using the chat.
Apparently, people at the world’s largest social media platform believe that a need for the same has arisen again. The Facebook away message has been reintroduced. They are now referring to it as the “sidebar status” which is going to appear when you visit the sidebar to chat with any of your friends.
Sue Young, who is a product manager at Facebook recently discussed the away message option in an interview. She explained that the reason why they were introducing the choice to put a message on chat like that was to allow people stay connected in a better way.
That really makes sense because this way even if your are not online you can let you peeps know what you are up to – if you are creative you could even make it a fun part of your day. Here’s an excerpt from Young’s comments on the matter.
People were having a difficult time staying in touch with their friends and seeing what they’re doing on a daily basis. Small things would make people feel connected in a big way. Now when I visit the sidebar, I can get an instant pulse of what all my friends are doing.
That is not all, you can also add a small icon image next to your status to match whatever it is that you are doing – and I am sure you guys are already getting the ideas that you could use to troll people.
Isn’t this an interesting addition to Facebook?
