Kickstarter Project For Horizon Zero Dawn Board Game Succeeds
Steamforged Games is a popular manufacturer of board games on Kickstarter, and after doing a couple of video game adaptions such as a board game based on Dark Souls, the company has now crowdfunded enough money to release an officially licensed Horizon: Zero Dawn board game.
Horizon: Zero Dawn, a PlayStation 4 exclusive title by Guerilla Games, tells the story of Aloy in a post-apocalyptic world where robotic creatures rule the planet. Steamforged Games was granted permission by Sony/Guerilla Games to adapt this formula into a board game.
The board game makers had set a target of around 200,000 United States dollars, and that target was reached within a single day. At the moment of writing, the Kickstarter campaign has attracted more than 1.1 million dollars from backers.
The board game features multiple expansion packs and can be played with a maximum of four players. The creators have uploaded a video explaining the board game’s mechanics, and are emphasizing the fact that players can choose to either work with each other or try to compete.
Steamforged is known for its detailed figures, and this Horizon: Zero Dawn board game is certainly no exception. A large number of enemies from the game are included as figures, with additional ones available in expansions packs such as Snapmaws, Stalkers and more. Steamforged has previously released a board game based on Dark Souls and is also working on a Resident Evil adaption.
The regular version of the board game – without expansions – costs around $125 USD on Kickstarter, although prices might fluctuate due to currency conversions as the Kickstarter project is based in the United Kingdom. The crowdfunding ends at the end of the month.
