Netgear Introduces Nighthawk Pro XR700 Router For Gamers
Netgear has introduced and presented a new high-end router aimed specifically towards gamers, the Nighthawk Pro XR700. The router will come with AD7200 Quad Stream Wave2 wi-fi functionality and features wireless internet across all three Wi-Fi bands: 2.4 GHz for maximum range, the 5 GHz band and the extremely fast 60 GHz frequency, which is rather limited in range, however.
The Nighthawk Pro XR700 also features no less than seven different ethernet ports and even has a 10 gigabit LAN SFP+ port as well. There’s a built-in version of Plex MediaServer installed as well as Netgear’s own DumaOS software, which allows you extended controls over network traffic and also allows you to prioritize gaming traffic for the best performance. According to Netgear, the 10-gigabit port will prove particularly useful when combined with another 10 gigabit PC, which should allow for a factor 10 reduction in latency compared to regular gigabit.
The manufacturer is also stressing the fact that there are 15 extra DFS-channels on the 5 GHz band in order to minimize interference, and a VPN feature is also present. There are two USB 3.0 ports at the back to quickly and easily add storage to your network.
Netgear’s newest Nighthawk Pro XR700 will come at a hefty price tag of $499. The router should be available worldwide in September of this year.
