MSI Introduces Mid-Range P65 Gaming Laptops With Thin Bezels In Silver
MSI is known to be one of the bigger brands in the gaming laptop market, and the company has now unveiled its new mid-range line-up of P65 gaming laptops. Remarkably, all of the new P65 notebooks will come in a rather non-aggressive white look and are aimed towards the mainstream gaming market. All of the new devices fill have relatively slim bezels at the top and the sides. Even though the base isn’t extremely slim, MSI promises that all of the laptops in this series will weigh less than four pounds and should be fairly portable.
The silver look of the P65 line-up with brushed aluminum is something that isn’t often seen for gaming laptops, which are often completely black with RGB LED accents. The previous generation MSI GS65 laptops – which seems to serve as the basis for the design – also all have a completely dark exterior. For its mid-range series, MSI has chosen for a more sleek and minimalistic look. All versions of the P65 feature an Intel Core i7 8750H processor with six cores running at 2.2 GHz with a boost clock speed up to 4.1. GHz. This cheapest version, carrying the name P65 8RD, will come with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti accompanied by 4 gigabytes of GDDR5 memory. The 15.6-inch display uses an IPS panel and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and is able to show 100% of the sRGB color spectrum.
Positioned slightly higher is the P65 8RE, with the same design as the previous model. The main difference here is graphical horsepower: this option comes equipped with the faster GTX 1060 Max-Q edition with 6 GB of GGDR5.
The top model in MSI’s new line-up will be the P65 8RF. This variant features a similar display, but operating at a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz instead of the regular 60 Hz. The GPU has also received an upgrade yet again, this time carrying the GTX 1070 Max-Q with 8 GB of video memory. It should be noted that this will be a limited edition release, with only a couple of hundred available models per country. The limited edition P65 8RF will come with an exclusive sleeve and wooden packaging. It’s still unclear if MSI will keep selling a variant of the laptop without the limited edition branding after they’re all sold out.
The rest of the specifications are identical across all three models. The Core i7 8750H CPU is accompanied by 16 gigabytes of DDR4 memory running at 2666 MHz. A 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD takes care of the storage and MSI uses an Intel Wireless AC 9560 network chip for connectivity. A fingerprint scanner is situated in the trackpad, and the laptop has ports for Thunderbolt and USB Type C.
The cheapest model with 1050 Ti will retail for $1,649. Its more powerful sibling with the 1060 Max-Q carries a price tag of $,1799 while the limited edition P65 8RF with 144 Hz display and 1070 Max-Q will change hands for no less than $2,199.
