Huawei Introduces AI Cube Smart Speaker And 4G/Wi-Fi Router Into One Product
Smartphone manufacturer Huawei has shown off a new product at the IFA tech conference in Berlin, Germany. The AI Cube is the company’s first smart speaker and will be running on Amazon Alexa. What’s most remarkable, however, is that Huawei will be combining smart speaker functionality with that of a Wi-Fi and 4G / LTE router.
The cone-shaped cube, with the speakers at the bottom and the ethernet port cleverly hidden away in a compartment below the device, features 892.11ac Wi-Fi on both the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz frequencies. The company claims to have a maximum speed of 1.2 Gbps when both Wi-Fi bands are combined. Aside from the Wi-Fi functionality, you can also use the Huawei AI Cube on the go as a portable 4G hotspot with speeds up to 300 megabits per second.
The AI Cube does resemble the Google Home quite a bit, albeit in a more stretched form. The device is just a little over 8.5 inches tall and weighs in at just under two pounds. There are four microphones embedded into the device with support for far-field voice recognition. Aside from controlling the device via voice with Amazon Alexa, you’ll also be able to adjust some quick settings with physical buttons at the top.
Unfortunately, Huawei hasn’t announced any pricing details about its upcoming AI Cube speaker yet, although it has plans to release the device in the middle of December, just in time for the holiday period.
