OnePlus Confirms Android P Update For OnePlus 3 and 3T
Earlier, popular smartphone manufacturer OnePlus announced that Android 8.1 Oreo would be the latest update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones, which sold like hot cakes. However, the company has stated that it will update the devices to Android P after all.
OnePlus faced some criticism after letting customers know that the OnePlus 3 series of smartphones released in 2016 that Android Oreo would be its final major update. After months of silence – it looks like they wanted to make things right.
The development team recently pushed a small update to the device with camera improvements, and apparently shifted focus from Oreo 8.1 to Android 9.0 P. This means that the development of Android 8.1 for the OnePlus 3 and 3T devices has ceased completely, and will be skipped in favor of releasing 9.0.
OnePlus has been collaborating with Google and they’ve worked closely with the Android P Beta program which has been running for a few months. Even though these smartphones from 2016 will get the Android P update, a timeframe is still unknown.
According to the latest rumors, Android P is scheduled to release at the end of August. It usually takes a couple of months upward to half a year before companies such as OnePlus are able to deliver the update to their phones. OnePlus does state that newer devices will have update priority. In other words, expect updates for the OnePlus 6 first, with the OnePlus 5/T following shortly after and finally, the OnePlus 3 and 3T.
