Google Blocks Crypto Mining Apps In Play Store
Ever since the release of the Google Play Store, the app market has been plagued with low-quality releases or even downright malware, but Google has taken measures over the past few years. The company is now taking it one step further and is preventing crypto mining apps to be released in the Play Store.
These crypto mining apps use your smartphone’s or tablet’s horsepower in order to mine digital cryptocurrencies. Google has announced the change in their Play Store policy on the developer’s website and states that they’re no longer allowed. This only affects apps that use the Android devices to mine, other related crypto and mining apps that don’t violate the rules are not suspended.
Although this is the first time that Google has restricted crypto mining apps on the Play Store, the company has dealt with similar apps in Chrome in the past. Chrome extensions that used users’ computing power unknowingly to mine cryptocurrencies have been removed from the Chrome Web Store, and now the Play Store is following in its sibling’s footsteps.
It’s unclear when this Play Store new policy will start to take place, as there are still a number of popular apps freely available to download in the App Store, including but not limited to Crypto Miner, MinerGate, and NeoNeoMiner.
