Rumor: Huawei Wants To Introduce Smartphone With Hole In Display For Camera
Love them or hate them, but it appears that the ‘notch’ in smartphones won’t be gone anytime soon. However, Huawei is now experimenting with a slightly different method. Instead is using a notch to house the front camera, the company is reportedly working on a smartphone with a hole in the display to make room for the selfie snapper.
Manufacturers are aiming to provide the largest screen-to-body ratio possible, and a simple hole in the display would definitely be able to help. An internal Huawei image has leaked, showing the evolution of screen borders of smartphones over the years.
Currently, we’re at the center stadium – with small bezels, a fingerprint scanner underneath the display, and a notch at the top. However, it’s clear that Huawei is aiming for an even better screen-to-body ratio int he future with very minimal bezels on all four sides, and a camera cut-out instead of a notch. The sensors and earpiece would be hidden in the thin bezel at the top.
According to ETNews, Huawei would introduce a phone with this concept as soon as this year. The website reports a potential smartphone with 6-inch smartphone display. Although displays with literal holes in them are quite uncommon, screen manufacturer Tianma has already announced these type of displays, shown in the top image.
