Rumor: New Samsung Galaxy Watch Runs On Tizen OS?
Rumors have been circulating for a while now that Samsung would introduce a new smartwatch with their own chipset running on the Android Wear platform, but reputable site SamMobile now reports that this smartwatch, dubbed as the Samsung Galaxy Watch, will run on the company’s Tizen OS instead.
The combination of Tizen OS and the ‘Galaxy’ nomenclature is somewhat unique, as Samsung mostly only uses Android operating systems on Galaxy products. The Galaxy Watch would run on Tizen 4.0 OS, which is a new version of the current smartwatch operating system Samsung currently uses on its Gear devices, which were first introduced in 2013.
SamMobile also reports that the Galaxy Watch would come with the company’s virtual Bixby assistant, as a competitor to both Apple’s Siri and Google’s Assistant.
Aside from the name and details about the operating system, not much information has been leaked about the upcoming smartwatch, including a design. However, it’s likely that the South-Korean will unveil the anticipated device at their Samsung Galaxy Note 9 press conference in New York. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company would also introduce a smart speaker, meaning that the press conference wouldn’t be entirely about the new Note 9 flagship smartphone.
