888poker.com app – Review
I was a late convert to online gambling; I think I saw it as a cheap upstart that could never compete with the real casino circuit; who’d ever want to play poker on a computer or, worse still, on a mobile phone? I think that the evidence suggests that I was very wrong. Having now played online for some years, I have been converted- I still go to my local casino, but my phone has become my go-to tool for playing. Who would have thought it?
Over the past six or seven years, I’ve played with a few of the games and never really settled on any of them. Recently, however, I was asked to take a look at 888poker iPhone app. I’d always known it was there but had never tried it. All I can say is that it is very slick. Well, I’m going to say a little more than just that because I think you need to know why I rate it so highly.
There is no way that I would stop my lifelong enjoyment of going to the casino, but the introduction of mobile apps to the game has been, well, a gamechanger. I’ve now got the opportunity to play anytime I want. If let’s say, I was unable to go to the casino for any reason….for weather or health reasons; I’ll still be able to play. Now that is progress!
The Origins of 888poker.com
Originally set up in 2002 as Pacific Poker, the company took players from all over the world including the US. Traffic was quite easy to generate, and they were immediately successful. The 888poker site is operated by a subsidiary of 888 Holdings plc, Cassava Enterprises Ltd under the laws of Gibraltar. The majority of the shares are owned by two men, Avi Shaked (50%) and Ron Ben-Yitzhak (11%) through family trusts.
In 2006 the US Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) which mean that 888 Poker had to close down its US operations. The change didn’t have to much of an impact because, by then, the US was only a small part of the 888poker operations.
Since then, and the changes to online gaming regulations in 2013 in some states, 888 returned to the US market. The new rules stated that online casino companies had to join an offline partner to get a license. 888 got their license granted in September 2013.
