HTC Introduces The Vive Pro VR Starter Kit For $1099
HTC had already announced the existence of the Vive Pro, an upgraded version of the current Vive virtual reality headset with a higher resolution display and built-in headphones. The Vive Pro is now available, and HTC offers a Starter Kit for new Vive owners with the two motion controllers as well as two lighthouse trackers.
The Starter Kit is a direct response to criticism from the community, as there wasn’t a more affordable option for people who haven’t purchased the regular Vive. If you’ve already got a previous-generation headset, you won’t need the two lighthouse stations and controllers as they remained identical. In other words, the Vive Pro Starter Kit is an attractive option for completely new users.
The Vive Pro without any accessories, trackers or controllers costs $879 but does include a $100 credit for the Viveport store, with an included 1-year subscription to the Viveport service. The Starter Kit will cost $1,099.
In terms of technical specifications, the main difference between the Vive and the Vive Pro is the screen resolution. The newer version has a resolution of 2880 x 1600 pixels compared to the regular Vive’s 2160 x 1200 display, which brings the pixel density to 615 pixels per inch compared to 461. Additionally, the Pro variant features two cameras at the front of the headset. As mentioned above, there’s now a built-in headset as well.
