Outlast And Outlast 2 Are Coming To The Nintendo Switch Next Year
Horror games have become increasingly popular in recent years. For a while, it seemed like the survival-horror genre was going to fade away into obscurity, but games like Amnesia and Outlast have paved the way for a horror renascence. Now, fans of Outlast will be able to experience the horror and thrills of the first two games on the go when they arrive on the Nintendo Switch.
Developer Red Barrels made the announcement via Facebook where they thanked fans for their support and provided some information on the future of the series.
In terms of the Switch release, we don’t know much aside from the fact that both games are coming in the first quarter of 2018. We also have no information regarding pricing.
In terms of the franchise’s future, the developers ruled out any DLC for Outlast 2, but promised a sequel was coming which would address many of the questions fans had. However, he didn’t give a timeline for the sequel’s release date so there’s no word on when we’ll see a direct sequel.
In terms of current plans, the developers did say they are working on ” something a lot of you have been asking for… It won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe.” Beyond knowing it will be set in the same universe as Red Barrel’s previous games, and likely be a horror game, we have no knowledge of what this project is. That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn the developers are working on a virtual reality game given the popularity of VR in recent years.
