Nvidia Releases Updated Drivers for ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II’
Nvidia has released a new Game Ready driver for Star Wars: Battlefront II which are configured for several of the company’s latest releases. The game recommends a GeForce GTX 1060 which should ensure a smooth frame rate of 60 FPS.
In addition to Battlefront II, the newest version of the Nvidia’s drivers also include support for Destiny 2 and Injustice 2 which came to PCs this month.
These latest driver should ensure that Battlefront II runs smoothly, but it will do nothing for the numerous controversies that have plagued the game since before it launched. Upon launch, the game, which costs $60, was heavily criticized for its pricing structure which many compared to free-t0-play mobile games. One famous complaint lamented the fact that it would take players roughly 40 hours to unlock Darth Vader and other hero characters. EA has since cut the cost of those unlocks by 40 percent.
That being said, it has, as of the time of this writing, done little to address the game’s over-reliance on loot boxes. Much of the game’s progression system, such as the stat boosting card system, are locked behind random loot boxes. In order to improve their chosen class, players need to spend currency to purchase loot boxes for a shot at gaining the items they want. This currency can be earned in-game, but it can also be bought with real money given those who are willing to pay a distinct advantage over non-payers.
The RNG-heavy nature of this system has been compared to gambling since players are encouraged to spend real money for items that don’t even guarantee they’ll get what they need. The gambling comparisons have gotten so extreme that some countries are investigating whether or not Battlefront II should be regulated under the same rules as gambling such as casinos. EA has denied that its loot box system amounts to gambling, but the comparison has been made by numerous outlets.
