Microsoft Hopes the Surface Book Two Can Kill The MacBook
Love the company or hate it, it’s undeniable Apple has earned a reputation within the industry as an innovator. The company’s products, especially the iPhone, were often hailed groundbreaking innovations that expertly refined or even created new product categories. However, in recent year’s Apple’s reputation has declined and Microsoft has emerged as one of the most innovative of tech companies. In no way is this more clear than in the Surface line of products. Microsoft has positioned its Surface Book line as MacBook killers and the company has recently boasted that the Surface Book 2 is twice as powerful as Apple’s MacBook.
The Surface Book two features an Intel eight generation CPU, up to 16GB of RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce 1060 graphics card. Internal storage offers a minimum of 256GB of flash storage. Of course, those specs will vary based on which model of the Surface Book you buy.
The first thing you’ll need to decide is which screen size you want. Microsoft offers a 13 and 15-inch variant and you’ll be paying a lot of for those extra two inches. The basic 13-inch model starts at $1,499 whereas the basic 15-inch model costs $1,000 more than that. Of course, the prices vary depending on how powerful you’ll want the device.
So, Microsoft’s line about the Surface Book 2 being twice as powerful as the MacBook is a bit misleading. It certainly can be that powerful, but you’ll be paying a premium to get it. That being said, there are a few advantages the Surface Book 2 has over the MacBook. For example, Microsoft boasts that the battery will last for 17 hours on a single charge which is significantly longer than that of the MacBook.
Ultimately, the decision to buy a MacBook or a Surface Pro 2 will depend a lot on personal preferences. If you simply prefer one OS over the other than that can make a major difference.
