Analyst Says Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is A MegaHit On A Different Scale
The Nintendo Switch is a hit among fans, gamers, and investors. Nintendo is poised to outsell the Wii U in a year’s time. Games on the Nintendo Switch have also had huge sales numbers. Zelda: Breath of the Wild has over a 100% attach rate to the Switch! Now Nintendo launched Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for fans across the world. The game broke records and topped the Amazon game charts since launch. Now we have an idea how well the game did. In the U.S., Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 459K units for the Nintendo Switch on launch day.
In a note to investors, Jefferies’ Senior Equity Analyst Atul Goyal wanted to reinforce the scale of this launch. The game at launch has surpassed sales of Mario Kart on the Wii, an immense feat. Jefferies claims this is a different scale, 5x to 10x better. Nintendo is riding a wave of success with their DS and Switch consoles. Zelda already sold over 2 million units, and Mario Kart could outsell the game in a few weeks.
Mario Kart 8 is doing better than other Mario Kart games
MK8 isn’t just a port of the game from the Wii U to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo changed maps, added in new characters, and updated the game for the Switch. Overall, the game is getting positive reviews and fans are loving it. Nintendo is rumored to bundle the game with the console during the holiday season. If they do, Nintendo could see a sales bump for MK8. All the numbers for the Switch and the games are looking like numbers from the Wii. It’s only May now, and the holiday season will bring a bump in sales that will only help Nintendo further drive home the success of the Switch.
