Nvidia Will Release A New Graphics Card To Compete With The RX 550
It’s been reported that Nvidia will be releasing a new mid-range graphics card meant to compete with AMD’s Radeon RX 550. The card, which will be called the GeForce GT 1030, will cost around $80.
Nvidia already has one card that costs less than $150, but, as of right now, only AMD is offering a modern card for less than $100. We don’t know the details of the 1030’s specs, but we can reasonably assume that they’ll be in line with the RX 55o’s. The 550 offers a Polaris 12 GPU, 512 stream processors and two or four GB of RAM.
The 550 isn’t a bad deal for $80 especially if you don’t need the power that the more expensive models will give you. We imagine 1030 will fit that same mold. Nvidia’s choice to enter the sub-100 market is a bit unexpected since the company hadn’t mentioned any recent plans for it, but it make sense considering they wouldn’t want to leave part of their market their competitors.
As of right now, there is no word on the 1030’s release date, but it will likely be within the coming months. We would be surprised if we didn’t see by the holiday season at the latest given how important it is for retailers.
