Galaxy S8 Users Are Reporting Problems With The Phone’s Wireless Charging Feature.
Wireless charging is one of the many great features available on the Samsung Galaxy S8. Unfortunately, it isn’t working for everyone. Users on the XDA developers forums have reported that their devices are having problems maintaining a steady charge when paired with certain third-party devices.
The thread was started by a user by the name of ObsidanGT. He reported that when he was using Samsung’s own adapter and charging pad, the S8 worked fine. The issue occurs when you attempt to use third-party accessories. ObsidanGT reported that using Samsung’s adapter with a third-party charging pad would cause the device to cease charging. He noted that this could be partially resolved by replacing the fast charge adapter is replaced with a standard one. The problem with this method is that the device will then only charged at the standard speed.
At first, it might appear that this is an intentional design choice on Samsung’s part. The company may not wish for their quick charge technology to be used with third party devices since Samsung can’t vouch for their quality. Beyond quality control issues, it’s also worth remember that the Galaxy Note 7 suffered from serious issues related to its battery so Samsung’s concerns do make sense.
That being said, some users reported their phones worked perfectly fine when paired with third-party accessories. The lack of clarity is really the biggest problem here. It is understandable that Samsung would have put measures in place to ensure that their proprietary technology only works with their own accessories. However, if that is the case, then why are some users reporting success? Given the high price of the Galaxy S8, Samsung would do well to issue a statement clarifying this issue. If it is unintended then they can take steps to fix the problem. If it is intentional then at least consumers will know not to spend their money on products that won’t work.
