Twitch Will Offer A $10 and $25 Per Month Channel Subscription
Twitch is pushing hard to become a streaming powerhouse for gaming. They’re already the go-to place to stream, but both Google and Microsoft are trying to take viewers and streamers away. Google has YouTube Gaming, and Microsoft has Beam, both of which have the upper hand on Twitch. Microsoft is integrating Beam into the Xbox, and YouTube already has millions of content creators publishing gaming content to YouTube. Twitch was one of the first streaming sites for gaming, but now they’re not the only one.
Like YouTube, Twitch streamers make money through ads. There is also a paid tier for fans to subscribe to get special content and badges. The current price is $4.99, but there’s an email going around saying Twitch will introduce a $9.99 and $24.99 tier. It’s unclear what’s the difference between each level for fans, and what content creators will need to do.
Twitch wants more paid tiers to help streamers make money
The new subscriptions offer more emotes to fans, but otherwise, it’s unclear what exclusive content they’ll get. For streamers, the new higher, premium tiers will help bring in money. It’s a way to prevent advertising being the only monetization model. This is something YouTube is struggling with as advertisers are pulling away from sensitive content that creators are creating. This new beta also comes at a time when PewDiePie announced a new Twitch show, which could be a part of this new beta.
Viewers will have choices on how they support their favorite Twitch streamers. I’m not sure how many will jump at the chance to pay $24.99, but the $4.99 and $9.99 subscriptions will become popular choices. Either way, the new levels are expensive when compared to YouTube TV, YouTube Red, or other similar subscription models.
Tell us in the comments below your thoughts! Would you willingly shell out $24.99 or $9.99 for a Twitch streamers account or will you stick to the free or $4.99 levels?
